Welcome To the Bangkok St Andrew’s Society
(*Note: Website under construction…)
Established in 1890 by a small group of expatriate Scots in what was then called Siam, we are one of the oldest Scottish Societies in the world. We remain true to our original founding cause of being a society for Scots but have widened it to being a society for all those with an interest in Scotland and Scottish culture.
There are two big events on our calendar. Burns Night commemorates Robert Burns, widely regarded as the national poet of Scotland. In November we celebrate St Andrew’s Day with a grand ball.
The Golf section holds friendly competitions against other societies as well as our own Haggis Bash competition. Social golf days are also arranged, sometimes at courses outside of Bangkok.
The Bangkok Reel Club is held twice a month and is open to all. No experience of Scottish Country dancing is needed in anyway. Join us and you’ll be able to impress at ceilidhs or any other dance.
Our Society joined the ASEAN St Andrew’s Society in 2022. It was formed to help improve communication, collaboration and support between societies in South-East Asia. We are very grateful that they have also provided sponsorship towards our Annual Ball and events run by the Java, Malaysia-Selangor, Singapore and Hong Kong St Andrew’s Societies.
Other smaller events may be held throughout the year. In the past there have been:
- Whisky tasting evenings
- Family Fairs with a Scottish Flair
- Kiddies’ Highland Games
- Pub Nights
- Murder Mystery Dinners
- Quiz Night
- Kilt Walk
Let us know if you have a suggestion for an event you would like to see on our calendar.
